Social anxiety is more common than I thought. Many names in the entertainment industry have been associated with anxiety and depression.
For example, Johnny Depp used to be shaken by severe panic attacks during movie rehearsals, Emma Stone is struggling with them since the age of eight, while Jim Carrey battled depression.
But I’m really surprised when I hear about musicians struggling with social anxiety, especially because, I think the countless interviews and appearances on stage might make one less nervous to be around people. In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, one learns that constant exposure to the frightening object or situation lowers the anxiety. However, the likelihood of performing artists having social anxiety might depend on their past experiences or the way they were raised.
